A contemporary version for the Arumbaya Idol

How to reinvent the iconic Broken Ear Fetish in the Tintin universe?
What if the timeless world of Tintin met the infinite possibilities of 3D ? In this project, the famous Arumbaya Fetish from The Broken Ear was recreated with Blender 3D, mixing traditional illustration with today’s immersive rendering. This dialogue between Hergé’s 9th art and modern animation allows a new interpretation of Tintin’s graphic universe.
From illustration to 3D : bringing the Arumbaya Fetish back to life
The Arumbaya Fetish is one of the emblematic objects of the Tintin universe. With its simple lines and palpable mystery, it embodies a perfect balance between drawing and visual narration. In this revisited version, the Blender software brings this symbol back to life while respecting Hergé’s unique graphic style.
Creative Process : Three Essential Steps
🔸 Photoshop : Every detail of the fetish was hand-painted to respect the texture and rendering specific to the world of comics. The shadows and lights were meticulously worked to enhance the scene while giving it a “living illustration” aspect.
🔸 Blender : The fetish was modeled and animated in 3D, while maintaining a cartoon style faithful to the spirit of Tintin. A dynamic camera was used to bring movement and a narrative dimension to the animation.
🔸 After Effects : The integration of 3D passes in After Effects made it possible to refine the cartoon rendering. The objective was to amplify the mysterious atmosphere and to bring out the textures while maintaining an aesthetic close to comics.
Here is a short Behind the scene:
Why Recreate Tintin in 3D with Blender?
This exploration with Blender 3D is much more than a simple technical exercise. It illustrates how modern tools can enrich classic works. By revisiting Tintin in a digital environment, this project opens the door to new ways of interpreting and celebrating timeless universes.
So, what do you think? What other iconic object from the Tintin universe would you like to see revisited in this style?
